WINNIE
"I was a sufferer of severe depression for a number of years and I only ever hoped that the blackness would leave me.

The day I adopted Winnie and everyday since that blackness has become smaller and smaller.

She is my dogmate and she has stolen my heart.

For seven years my partner and I 'discussed' the various dog breeds available and we could never agree (thus the time involved). I would research MANY breeds only to have something not quite right about them. Then one night we were watching Burkes Backyard (as we do every Friday night) and Don finally did a story on Adopting Greyhounds - so we decided to look further into Greyhounds.

Well, we were overwhelmed by the breed - their gentleness, their nobility, their short hair, their excise needs (not very much - I probably need more exercise than she does), their love of humans, their intelligence, their ability and enjoyment at obedience classes, their manners, they are superb in the car, they are not 'needy' or 'noisy' either which is great when you have visitors (nothing worse than trying to have a good time while attempting to remove your dog from your visitors laps), their quietness (without timidness) and their elegance - well I think you get the general picture, they are EXCELLENT.

To see your Greyhound run around your backyard (probably only once or twice in one session) is to see an true athlete and a thing of beauty. Many of my friends now comment (after meeting Winnie) that if they had been aware of the ability to have a Greyhound as a pet they too would have seriously considered the breed and probably will in the future.
There is not one day that goes by that I don't thank the universe for sending her to me.
I would also like to thank Sheree and Fran who were so helpful through the whole adoption process and were able to provide us with the best dog for our situation. Not only did we get Winnie but we gained a couple of good friends too."
